Reading for pleasure
We are passionate about reading at St Thomas CE Academy. In October 2023, we launched our new well-resourced library open at break and lunch times when children can sit and read and share stories with their friends and teachers.
In everything you do, you need to be able to read. The more you can read, the more of the world you can access. It is through reading that we learn about the world we live in: about other cultures and places, people, and what they have done, events both past and present. Books open up different worlds to us; places we simply cannot visit.
Supporting reading at home
Parents and carers have access to our OxfordOwl e-books login via classdojo and can select and share many titles from the oxfordowl range with their children. We have coffee mornings with parents and carers discussing how they can support reading at home, including the correct pronunciation of current phonemes for EYFS-KS1.
