Spirituality

"Through God's love in action, we are the rich soil in which roots grow and seeds flourish."  Luke 8: 4-15

God’s love in action is theologically rooted in St Thomas by love and creation.

God is love and whoever lives in God, and God lives in him.  St Thomas has a culture where love is action, responding courageously to those in the community who struggle.

Everyone belongs at St Thomas; they are embraced for who they are and who they are becoming. God created us all uniquely and within his image.

Spirituality is our unique way of “being” through our connections. We develop spirituality by connecting to ourselves, others, the world and beyond. At St Thomas, “questions of wonder” are a tool to develop curiosity and wonder about these different areas of spirituality. Our curriculum is planned so that opportunities for spiritual development can be observed and paid attention to, knowing that we cannot measure these moments but discuss our experiences of them.

In 2024, St Thomas had its Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) Report and were delighted to share that St Thomas Church of England VA Primary School is living up to its foundation as a Church school and is enabling pupils and adults to flourish.

Here are some highlights from the report that were identified by the inspector:

  • Through exceptionally strong relationships, leaders ensure the Christian vision and values drive and permeate through the life of the school and its community. It is a place of flourishing.
  • Tailored to the needs of pupils, the vision-energised curriculum transforms their lives and those of their families.
  • Collective worship is a daily highlight, creating a strong unified worshipping community. It is underpinned by the vision and values which are enthusiastically embraced by the diverse school community.
  • The school’s vision promotes a culture of compassion, encouragement and respect for all. Pupils and adults are cherished for who they are. This enables the community to live well together.
  • Due to the inclusive religious education (RE) curriculum, pupils blossom and thrive. This contributes significantly to their spiritual development.
  •  A nurturing culture has been created in which pupils and adults are cherished for who they are. Trusting, steadfast and reciprocal relationships are key to the school’s supportive environment.
  • Leaders are resolute in their determination to support the wellbeing of the school community.
